A limited single cask release from Duncan Taylor's acclaimed Octave series, featuring Royal Brackla — one of Scotland's few distilleries to hold a Royal Warrant.
Distilled in 2011 at Royal Brackla and matured for 12 years, this Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky was finished in an ex-sherrywood Octave cask #9340039 — approximately one-eighth the size of a traditional sherry butt. The smaller cask increases interaction between the whisky and the wood, adding richness, balance, and complexity while preserving the whisky's original character.
Bottled at its natural 53.1% cask strength with no chill filtration and no added color, this limited single cask release offers an authentic expression of both the distillery and Duncan Taylor's innovative Octave maturation.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Leather, spicy oak, porridge oats, double cream, wood shavings.
Palate: Sherry, wet tobacco, orange juice, liquorice, coffee beans.
Finish: Long and complex, with lingering coffee, liquorice, and a slow fade of sherry and spiced oak.
How to Drink It
Neat: The recommended way to experience this release — the sherry and coffee complexity opens up beautifully with a few minutes to breathe.
With Water: A few drops soften the oak and bring the orange and cream notes forward.
In Cocktails: The coffee and liquorice profile makes a natural base for a Rob Roy or a dark, stirred Old Fashioned.
