Cambus Distillery was founded in 1806 in the village of the same name near Alloa. Cambus initially distilled malt whisky but was re-equipped to produce grain whisky for blends in 1837. A fire destroyed most of the distillery in 1913 and remained closed for 24 years, reopening in 1938. Cambus closed its doors for the last time in 1993. Stocks of single grain Cambus are increasingly scarce making independent bottlings highly sought after.
Tasting Notes:
Distillery: Cambus (Single Grain Scotch Whisky)
Colour: Soft gold
Nose: Baked apple with vanilla ice cream, sweet orange peel, very creamy.
Palate: Hints of more tropical fruit, but still orchard fruits predominate. Slightly “waxy” on the palate. There are woody notes, yet not overly spicy, quite light in fact!
Finish: “Zippy” with good balance and length. Sweet grain persists.
ABV: 50.50%
Size: 750 ml
